US $10 Dollar Banknote (Alexander Hamilton) Issued 2003

£6.206378

United States dollar banknotes have been issued in a variety of designs by the Federal Reserve, including this US $10 banknote featuring Alexander Hamilton, issued in 2003. This note forms part of the pre-2006 small-portrait design series and was widely used in everyday circulation before the introduction of enhanced security features and colour-based designs.

The $10 banknote issued in 2003 is printed primarily in black and green ink on light-coloured paper. It includes traditional security features typical of the period, such as a green Treasury seal, green serial numbers, a Federal Reserve System seal, and fine-line engraving intended to deter counterfeiting. While still recognised as legal tender in the United States, this design is no longer produced and is increasingly treated as a legacy or older note by banks outside the US.

On the obverse of the banknote is an engraved portrait of Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the United States Treasury and a key figure in the development of the American financial system. Hamilton’s portrait is centrally positioned within an oval frame, surrounded by intricate guilloché patterns and ornamental borders. The text “The United States of America” appears prominently across the top, with the denomination “Ten Dollars” displayed along the lower portion of the note.

The reverse of the banknote features a detailed engraving of the United States Treasury Building in Washington, D.C. This classical architectural image reflects Hamilton’s legacy and the historical foundations of the US Treasury. Large denomination numerals appear in the corners, framed by decorative scrollwork consistent with late-twentieth-century US banknote design.

This $10 series represents one of the final generations of traditional monochrome US banknotes before the introduction of colour-shifting inks, watermarks, and advanced security threads. As a result, it is increasingly classified as an older design in international currency exchange environments.
