About Finnish Markkaa Exchange
The Finnish Markka (FIM) was the official currency of Finland until the country adopted the Euro in 2002, making all Markkaa banknotes and coins withdrawn from circulation. We accept all denominations of Finnish Markka banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Finnish Markka Banknotes
As Finland joined the eurozone in 2002, there are no current Finnish Markka banknotes in circulation — all series are now withdrawn. If you’re looking to exchange modern Finnish currency, Finland now uses the Euro. We do, however, accept the full range of Finnish Markka banknotes that were issued prior to the switchover.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we accept withdrawn Finnish Markka banknotes, including well-known denominations such as the 500 Markka and the 100 Markka, as well as lower values including the 50 Markka. We also consider damaged notes, provided they remain at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower to reflect the additional handling involved.
Finnish Markka Coins
We accept Finnish Markka coins, which were issued in denominations of 10 and 50 penniä, as well as 1, 5 and 10 Markka. Because coins require additional handling and sorting, the rate offered is typically a little lower than for banknotes, but we’re happy to take them where most other exchange services won’t.
