About Sri Lankan Rupee Exchange
The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) is the official currency of Sri Lanka, an island nation in the Indian Ocean popular with UK travellers for its beaches, tea plantations, and wildlife. We accept all denominations of Sri Lankan Rupee banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Sri Lankan Rupee Banknotes
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka issues a range of banknotes featuring cultural and natural imagery that reflects the island’s heritage. We accept all current denominations, from the smaller everyday notes right up to the higher-value notes in circulation. If you have returned from holiday with a mix of denominations, send them all — every note is welcome. If you have leftover Indian Rupees or Nepalese Rupees from other South Asian travels, we can exchange those too.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we also accept withdrawn Sri Lankan Rupee banknotes and notes that have seen better days. As long as a note is at least 50% intact, we will make you an offer — though the rate is typically slightly lower than for current series notes to reflect the additional handling involved. Most UK banks will not exchange leftover Sri Lankan Rupees at all, so we are often the most practical option available.
Sri Lankan Rupee Coins
We accept Sri Lankan Rupee coins alongside banknotes, including the smaller cent and rupee denominations used in everyday life on the island. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional sorting and handling costs involved, but unlike many services, we do not simply turn them away.
