About Sri Lankan Rupee Exchange

The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) is the official currency of Sri Lanka, an island nation in the Indian Ocean popular with UK travellers for its beaches, tea plantations, and wildlife. We accept all denominations of Sri Lankan Rupee banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Sri Lankan Rupee Banknotes

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka issues a range of banknotes featuring cultural and natural imagery that reflects the island’s heritage. We accept all current denominations, from the smaller everyday notes right up to the higher-value notes in circulation. If you have returned from holiday with a mix of denominations, send them all — every note is welcome. If you have leftover Indian Rupees or Nepalese Rupees from other South Asian travels, we can exchange those too.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we also accept withdrawn Sri Lankan Rupee banknotes and notes that have seen better days. As long as a note is at least 50% intact, we will make you an offer — though the rate is typically slightly lower than for current series notes to reflect the additional handling involved. Most UK banks will not exchange leftover Sri Lankan Rupees at all, so we are often the most practical option available.

Sri Lankan Rupee Coins

We accept Sri Lankan Rupee coins alongside banknotes, including the smaller cent and rupee denominations used in everyday life on the island. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional sorting and handling costs involved, but unlike many services, we do not simply turn them away.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take

Sri Lankan Rupee Exchange FAQ

Can I exchange Sri Lankan Rupees if I only have a small amount left over?

Yes, we welcome all quantities of Sri Lankan Rupees — there is no minimum amount required. Many travellers return from Sri Lanka with a mixture of small-denomination notes and coins, and we are happy to exchange whatever you have left over.

Do you accept Sri Lankan Rupee coins as well as banknotes?

Yes! We accept Sri Lankan Rupee coins alongside banknotes. The exchange rate for coins is slightly lower than for notes due to handling costs, but we will not turn them away as most high street currency services would.

I have some old Sri Lankan Rupee notes from a trip years ago — are they still exchangeable?

Yes, we accept withdrawn and older series Sri Lankan Rupee banknotes that are no longer in circulation. The rate is slightly reduced compared to current notes, but as long as a note is at least 50% intact, we will make you an offer. Most UK banks will not accept these at all, so sending them to us is usually your best option.

My Sri Lankan Rupee notes are torn or water-damaged — can I still send them?

Yes, we accept damaged Sri Lankan Rupee banknotes, provided each note is at least 50% intact. The rate offered may be slightly lower than for clean, undamaged notes, but unlike most exchanges, we will not simply refuse them. If you are unsure whether a particular note qualifies, feel free to contact us before sending.

How do I send my Sri Lankan Rupees and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Sri Lankan Rupees and post them to us yourself — please ensure they are well packaged for the journey. Once we receive and verify your currency, we will pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you are not happy with our offer, we will return your currency to you free of charge.
