Swedish Kronor Banknotes & Coins We Accept

To exchange your Swedish Kronor for cash, select the coins or banknotes you want to add to your account below.

About Swedish Kronor Exchange

The Swedish Krona (SEK) is the official currency of Sweden, one of Scandinavia’s most popular destinations for UK travellers. We accept all denominations of Swedish Kronor banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Swedish Kronor Banknotes

Sweden’s current banknote series was introduced from 2015 onwards and features a range of denominations with modern security features including holograms, colour-shifting ink, and raised print. We accept all current notes, including the 500 Krona and the 1,000 Krona — as well as every denomination in between. Unlike most high street exchanges, we also accept the full range of lower-value current notes without fuss.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Sweden has withdrawn several older series over the years, and most UK banks will not exchange these for you. We will, including older notes such as the 500 Krona issued in 1994 and the 1,000 Krona issued in 1978, as well as a wide range of other withdrawn denominations going back many decades. We also accept damaged notes provided they remain at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower to reflect the additional handling involved.

Swedish Kronor Coins

We accept Swedish Kronor coins, including the 1 Krona and 10 Kronor coins, as well as older issued coin versions. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional handling costs involved — something most exchanges and banks won’t bother with at all. If you also have leftover Norwegian Kroner or Danish Kroner from a Scandinavian trip, we can exchange those too.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days
  • No hidden fees or charges

Swedish Krona Exchange FAQ

Does Sweden still use the Krona, or has it switched to the Euro?

Yes, Sweden still uses the Krona. Despite being an EU member state, Sweden has not adopted the Euro and continues to use the SEK as its official currency, so current banknotes and coins remain valid for exchange.

I have old Swedish Kronor banknotes that were withdrawn years ago — can I still exchange them?

Yes, we accept a wide range of withdrawn Swedish Kronor notes, including older series going back several decades. Unlike most high street exchanges, we specialise in currency that has been demonetised or is no longer in circulation, so don’t throw those notes away.

How do I send my Swedish Kronor to you and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Swedish Kronor banknotes and coins and post them to us yourself — many customers returning from Sweden find this far more convenient than queuing at a bureau de change. Once we receive and verify your currency, we’ll pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If you’re not happy with our offer, we’ll return your currency free of charge.

Can I exchange very old Swedish Kronor banknotes, such as those issued in the early 20th century?

Yes, we do accept a number of early Swedish banknotes, including notes going back as far as 1920. Older or rarer notes are assessed individually, so if you’re unsure whether yours are exchangeable, feel free to contact us before sending anything.

Do you accept Swedish Kronor coins as well as banknotes?

Yes! We accept Swedish Kronor coins including various issued versions of the 1 Krona and 10 Kronor coins. The rate for coins is slightly lower than for banknotes due to handling costs, but we won’t turn them away — which is more than can be said for most banks and currency exchanges.
