About Swedish Kronor Exchange
The Swedish Krona (SEK) is the official currency of Sweden, one of Scandinavia’s most popular destinations for UK travellers. We accept all denominations of Swedish Kronor banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Swedish Kronor Banknotes
Sweden’s current banknote series was introduced from 2015 onwards and features a range of denominations with modern security features including holograms, colour-shifting ink, and raised print. We accept all current notes, including the 500 Krona and the 1,000 Krona — as well as every denomination in between. Unlike most high street exchanges, we also accept the full range of lower-value current notes without fuss.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Sweden has withdrawn several older series over the years, and most UK banks will not exchange these for you. We will, including older notes such as the 500 Krona issued in 1994 and the 1,000 Krona issued in 1978, as well as a wide range of other withdrawn denominations going back many decades. We also accept damaged notes provided they remain at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower to reflect the additional handling involved.
Swedish Kronor Coins
We accept Swedish Kronor coins, including the 1 Krona and 10 Kronor coins, as well as older issued coin versions. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional handling costs involved — something most exchanges and banks won’t bother with at all. If you also have leftover Norwegian Kroner or Danish Kroner from a Scandinavian trip, we can exchange those too.
