About Irish Pounds Exchange
The Irish Pound (IEP) was the official currency of the Republic of Ireland from 1928 until it was replaced by the Euro in 2002. We accept all denominations of Irish pound banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Irish Pound Banknotes
Ireland adopted the Euro in 2002, so there are no current Irish pound banknotes in circulation — every note is now a withdrawn collector’s piece. We accept the full range of Irish pound banknotes across all series, including higher-value notes such as the 100 Irish pound note issued in 1996 and the 50 Irish pound note issued in 1996, as well as all lower denominations.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we buy Irish pound notes from across all eras of the currency’s history, including earlier issues such as the 10 Irish pound note issued in 1974 and the 1 Irish pound note issued in 1944. Damaged or worn notes are accepted provided they remain at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower than for notes in good condition. Most UK banks will not exchange old Irish pound notes, so we offer a convenient alternative for anyone who has found forgotten currency after a trip or house clearance.
Irish Pound Coins
We also buy Irish pound coins, which most banks and bureaux de change will refuse outright. We accept coins including the 1 Irish pound coin and smaller denominations such as the 50 Irish pence coin and the 10 Irish pence coin. Rates for coins are slightly lower than for banknotes due to the additional handling involved, but we will not turn them away.
