About Faroese Kronur Exchange

The Faroese Króna is the official currency of the Faroe Islands, a self-governing archipelago in the North Atlantic, and is issued locally but pegged at parity with the Danish Krone. The Faroese Króna does not have a separate ISO 4217 currency code and is conventionally quoted as DKK, the code used for the Danish Krone. We accept all denominations of Faroese Kronur banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Faroese Kronur Banknotes

The Faroe Islands issue their own distinctive banknotes featuring local wildlife, landscapes, and cultural motifs, setting them apart from standard Danish Kroner notes. We accept all current Faroese Kronur banknotes across a range of denominations, including both lower and higher-value notes — simply send us whatever you have left over from your trip.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we also buy older withdrawn series of Faroese Kronur as well as notes that have seen better days. As long as a note is at least 50% intact, we can make you an offer, though the rate for damaged or withdrawn notes is slightly lower than for current issues. If you’re also sitting on leftover Icelandic Kronur or Norwegian Kroner from a broader Nordic trip, we can handle those too.

Faroese Kronur Coins

We accept Faroese Kronur coins, which most UK banks and currency exchanges will simply turn away. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional handling involved, but there is no need to sort or separate them before sending.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days
  • No hidden fees or charges

Faroese Króna Exchange FAQ

Are Faroese Kronur the same as Danish Kroner?

No — while the Faroese Króna is pegged at parity with the Danish Krone and is conventionally quoted using the DKK currency code, Faroese banknotes are issued separately by the Faroe Islands and feature their own unique designs. They are not the same physical notes, and Danish Kroner issued by Denmark are a different product, though we exchange both — you can see our Danish Kroner page if you have a mix.

Will UK banks accept my leftover Faroese Kronur?

Most UK banks and high street currency exchanges will not accept Faroese Kronur, as they are a relatively specialist currency not widely traded in the UK. We specialise in exactly this kind of currency, so you can send us your leftover notes and coins without needing to find a specialist bureau in person.

Can I exchange old or withdrawn Faroese Kronur banknotes?

Yes — we accept older withdrawn series of Faroese Kronur banknotes, which is something most exchanges won’t offer. The rate is slightly lower than for current notes, but as long as the note is at least 50% intact, we are happy to make you an offer.

Do you accept Faroese Kronur coins as well as banknotes?

Yes, we do accept Faroese Kronur coins, which is uncommon among UK currency exchange services. There is a slightly lower rate applied to coins due to the handling costs involved, but there is no need to count or separate them before you post them to us.

How do I send my Faroese Kronur and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Faroese Kronur and post them to us at your own arrangement — many customers use a tracked postal service for peace of mind when sending currency back from a Faroe Islands or wider North Atlantic trip. Once we receive and verify your currency, we will pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you are not happy with our offer, we will return your currency to you free of charge.
