The US $20 Dollar banknote issued in 1995 forms part of the modern Federal Reserve Note series and is one of the most widely recognised US currency designs. This issue continues the long-standing use of Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, whose portrait has appeared on the $20 denomination for many decades.
This 1995-issued $20 banknote is printed primarily in green and black ink on light-coloured paper and represents one of the final versions of the traditional large-format US note design before enhanced colour and security features were introduced in later years. Notes from this period remain legal tender, although older series are increasingly withdrawn from circulation as newer designs replace them.
On the obverse of the banknote is a finely engraved portrait of Andrew Jackson, positioned centrally within an oval frame and surrounded by intricate line engraving and decorative scrollwork. The wording “The United States of America” appears across the top, with “Twenty Dollars” clearly displayed along the lower portion of the note. Federal Reserve identifiers, serial numbers and the green Treasury seal are arranged around the portrait in a balanced layout typical of US currency from this era.
The reverse of the banknote features a detailed engraved image of the White House in Washington, D.C., the official residence of the President of the United States. This architectural vignette is framed by ornate borders and repeated denomination numerals, reinforcing the authority and national symbolism associated with the $20 denomination.
While many $20 notes from this series remained in everyday use for years, some financial institutions now restrict or refuse older US dollar issues, particularly for foreign exchange or international deposits.
