US 5 Dollar Banknote (Abraham Lincoln) Issued 1995

£3.103189

1 USD = £0.620638

United States dollar banknotes have been issued in a wide range of designs and series, including this US $5 banknote issued in 1995 featuring Abraham Lincoln. This note forms part of the modern Federal Reserve Note series and reflects the transitional design period that followed the late-twentieth-century updates to US paper currency.

The 1995 series $5 banknote is printed primarily in green and black ink on light-coloured paper and retains the classic large-format layout used on US notes prior to the introduction of enhanced colour and security features in later years. Although still familiar in appearance, this issue marked one of the final versions before more advanced anti-counterfeiting measures were introduced.

On the obverse of the banknote is a detailed engraved portrait of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Lincoln’s portrait is positioned slightly off-centre and surrounded by intricate scrollwork and fine line engraving. The wording “The United States of America” appears prominently across the top, with “Five Dollars” displayed along the bottom. A green Treasury seal and Federal Reserve identifiers are visible, along with the series date of 1995.

The reverse of the note features a finely engraved image of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. This architectural vignette is rendered in precise detail and framed by decorative borders and denomination markers in each corner. The Lincoln Memorial has long been associated with the $5 denomination and serves as a symbolic counterpart to Lincoln’s portrait on the front.

While many $5 notes from this period remained in circulation for years, older series are increasingly withdrawn by banks as newer designs replace them. Some financial institutions no longer accept earlier US dollar issues, particularly when exporting or depositing foreign currency.
