10 Centavos coin Argentina

10 Centavos Argentina (Issued 1985)

This ten-centavo coin dates from the era of the austral, the currency Argentina introduced in 1985 in an attempt to curb runaway inflation. Struck in a golden-toned aluminium-bronze, it is a light coin with a plain edge, one of the small denominations of the austral that were quickly overtaken by rising prices.

On the obverse, the coin shows the national coat of arms of Argentina: an oval shield with two clasped hands holding a staff topped by a Phrygian cap, crowned by a radiant rising sun and framed by a laurel wreath. The legend “REPUBLICA ARGENTINA” curves around the design.

On the reverse, a large numeral 10 sits above the word “CENTAVOS” and the date, with the austral currency symbol placed at the top of the field. A plain raised rim frames the whole.
