Australian Dollars Banknotes & Coins We Accept

To exchange your Australian Dollars for cash, select the coins or banknotes you want to add to your account below.

About Australian Dollar Exchange

The Australian Dollar (AUD) is the official currency of Australia and one of the most widely traded currencies in the world. We accept all denominations of Australian Dollar banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Australian Dollar Banknotes

Australia’s current polymer banknotes are some of the most secure in circulation, featuring advanced transparent windows and tactile features designed to deter counterfeiting. We accept all denominations across the current series, including the 100 AUD note issued in 2020 and the 20 AUD note issued in 2019, as well as the 5, 10, and 50 dollar notes and everything in between.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we also buy withdrawn Australian Dollar banknotes, including older paper issues and the earlier polymer series. We accept notes such as the 50 AUD David Unaipon note and older designs including the 100 AUD Sir Douglas Mawson note, right back to the earliest Commonwealth of Australia paper banknotes. Damaged notes are accepted provided they are at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower to reflect their condition.

Australian Dollar Coins

We also exchange Australian Dollar coins, which most banks and currency exchanges in the UK will not accept. Our coin range includes the 2 AUD coin and 1 AUD coin, as well as smaller denominations such as the 50, 20, 10, and 5 cent coins. Rates for coins are slightly lower than for banknotes due to the additional handling involved, but we are happy to take them off your hands. We also buy withdrawn 1 and 2 cent coins, which were removed from circulation decades ago.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days
  • No hidden fees or charges

Australian Dollar Exchange FAQ

Do you accept old Australian Dollar paper banknotes?

Yes, we do. Australia issued paper banknotes before switching to polymer notes in the 1980s and 1990s, and we accept these older withdrawn designs alongside the current series. The rate for withdrawn notes is slightly lower than for current issues, but there is no need to bin them.

Can I exchange Australian 1 and 2 cent coins?

Yes! Australia withdrew its 1 cent and 2 cent coins from circulation in 1992, but we still buy them. Simply include them with any other Australian coins or notes you are sending in, and we will assess the full lot together.

I have a mix of current and old Australian Dollar notes — can I send them together?

Absolutely. You can send any combination of current and withdrawn Australian Dollar banknotes in the same parcel. We assess each note individually and will give you a breakdown of what we can offer for each series before completing the exchange.

How do I send my Australian Dollars and when will I be paid?

You simply box up your Australian Dollars and post them to us yourself — many customers returning from a trip Down Under find this far more convenient than hunting for an exchange on the high street. Once we receive and verify your currency, we pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If you are not happy with the offer we make, we will return your currency free of charge.

Do you exchange Australian Pounds, the pre-decimal currency?

Yes, the old pre-decimal Australian Pounds are a separate currency to the Australian Dollar and we exchange those too. If you have a mix of both, just get in touch via our contact us page and we can advise on the best way to send them.
