50 Austrian Schilling — Vienna International Garden Show (Issued 1964)

This crown-sized 50 Schilling piece is one of Austria’s silver commemorative coins of the early 1960s, struck in .900 fine silver to mark the Vienna International Garden Show (Wiener Internationale Gartenschau). Larger and heavier than everyday circulating money, it carried real precious-metal value and was intended to be kept as much as spent. The bright silver surface, milled edge and bold lettering are typical of the Second Republic’s commemorative series, which celebrated national anniversaries and events.
