200 Francs / Frank / Belgian Franc (Issued 1995)
A cream and pale yellow banknote dominated by a finely engraved portrait of a bearded gentleman in formal nineteenth-century dress occupies the left side of the front design. The subject wears a dark coat and bow tie, rendered in precise black and sepia tones that contrast sharply against the warm background. The denomination “200” appears prominently in burgundy numerals at the upper right, whilst decorative guilloché patterning in gold and russet tones flows across the centre of the note in elaborate flowing script.
On the front, the left margin displays the text “DEUX CENTS FRANCS” in vertical characters running along the edge. The central area features intricate geometric patterns and fine line work in ochre and gold hues, creating depth beneath the denomination figures. The name “BANQUE NATIONALE DE BELGIQUE” is printed in clear capitals across the lower portion of the design. A white security strip is visible running vertically through the note. The overall colour palette transitions from pale yellow at the edges to warmer cream tones towards the centre, with careful attention to fine engraving throughout the background field.
The reverse displays a two-part composition divided by a central white vertical strip. On the left side, a classical figure in teal and bronze tones is depicted in an engraved style, accompanied by architectural line drawings and the repeated text “TWEE HONDERD FRANKEN” and “ZWEIHUNDERT FRANKEN” in burgundy. The right portion features a stylised cityscape rendered in soft greens, yellows, and orange tones, with geometric building forms including what appears to be a tall structure suggesting urban architecture. The denomination “200” is repeated in large burgundy numerals at the lower right. Serial numbers appear at the top of both sections in dark print: “3Z00082O963” is visible on both the left and right portions. The trilingual text “NATIONALE BANK VAN BELGÏE / BELGISCHE NATIONALBANK” is printed in burgundy across the upper right area, identifying the issuing institution in both Dutch and French.
