25 Centimes coin Belgium (B)

Belgium 25 Centimes (Issued 1922)

The 25 centimes was a small everyday coin of the Belgian franc system, in which one hundred centimes made one franc. Struck in copper-nickel with a distinctive central hole, it belongs to the holed series carrying no royal portrait, and this example bears the Dutch-language legend used alongside a matching French-language type. The 1922 issue circulated widely in the years following the First World War. The coin has a plain edge.

On the obverse, a royal crown sits above the central hole, flanked by scrolling foliate ornament, with the Dutch legend “KONINKRIJK BELGIE” curving around the upper field and the date “1922” below. A small dot and star decorate the sides.

On the reverse, the value “25 CEN” appears to the right of the central hole, with a laurel branch curving down the left side. The designer’s name “MICHAUX” is engraved discreetly at the foot of the coin, beneath the value.
