Belgian Franc coins were issued in 12 different denominations by the Royal Belgian Mint. Included in this series of minted Belgian Franc coins was this 50 Belgian Franc coin (Albert II). This series of fifty Belgian Franc coins (Albert II) were first minted in 1994 and in 2001 were withdrawn from circulation.
Prior to the changeover to the Euro in 2002, this nickel composite fifty Belgian coin (Albert II) was the highest value denomination of coin in the country. The value is equivalent to half a franc. The obverse side of the coin shows the head portrait of the King Albert II facing left. The reverse side of the coin shows the value divided by a vertical line with the date.
