Belgian Francs Banknotes & Coins We Accept

To exchange your Belgian Francs for cash, select the coins or banknotes you want to add to your account below.

About Belgian Franc Exchange

The Belgian Franc (BEF) was the official currency of Belgium until the country adopted the Euro in 2002. We accept all denominations of Belgian Franc banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes from across the currency’s long history.

Current Belgian Franc Banknotes

Belgium replaced the Franc with the Euro over two decades ago, meaning there are no current Belgian Franc banknotes in circulation. All Belgian Franc notes are now withdrawn and can be exchanged with us — see the section below for details.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we accept the full range of withdrawn Belgian Franc banknotes, including everything from wartime issues to the final series printed before the Euro transition. This includes notable notes such as the 10,000 Franc note featuring King Albert and Queen Paola and the 1,000 Franc Constant Permeke note, as well as much earlier issues going back to the First World War era. We also accept damaged notes provided they are at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower to reflect the condition. If you have old French Francs or Luxembourg Francs alongside your Belgian notes, we can exchange those too.

Belgian Franc Coins

We also accept Belgian Franc coins, including commemorative and collector pieces such as the 500 Franc Five Kings coin and smaller everyday denominations like the 50 Centimes Miner coin — all are welcome. Because coins require additional handling and sorting, the exchange rate offered is typically slightly lower than for banknotes.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days
  • No hidden fees or charges

Belgian Franc Exchange FAQ

Can I still exchange Belgian Francs now that Belgium uses the Euro?

Yes, absolutely. Although Belgium switched to the Euro in 2002, Belgian Franc banknotes and coins can still be exchanged with us. Unlike the National Bank of Belgium, which has its own conditions for redemption, we offer a straightforward postal exchange service for both banknotes and coins of all series.

Do you accept very old Belgian Franc notes, such as those issued during the World Wars?

Yes, we do. We accept Belgian Franc banknotes from across the currency’s entire history, including early twentieth-century issues. Notes from this period can be quite fragile, so as long as the note is at least 50% intact we will make you an offer — though the rate may be slightly lower for notes in poor condition.

How do I send my Belgian Francs to you and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Belgian Franc banknotes and coins and post them to us yourself using a service of your choice. Once we receive them, we will verify the currency and pay you within 5 working days via bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you are unhappy with our offer, we will return your currency to you free of charge.

Do you accept Belgian Franc coins as well as banknotes?

Yes, we accept a wide range of Belgian Franc coins, from small centimes pieces through to larger commemorative coins. Because coins take more time to process than banknotes, the rate offered is generally a little lower, but there is no need to separate your coins from your notes before sending them in.

I have both Belgian Francs and other old European currencies — can you exchange them all?

Yes, we exchange a wide range of former European currencies alongside Belgian Francs, including French Francs, Deutsche Marks, and Dutch Guilders. You are welcome to send mixed currencies together in the same parcel, and we will assess each one separately.
