10 Cruzeiros Reais — Southern Tamandua (Issued 1993-1994)
The 10 Cruzeiros Reais was a Brazilian circulation coin produced between 1993 and 1994 as part of the cruzeiro real series. It was struck in stainless steel, giving it a durable, bright metallic surface suited to constant handling. The coin weighs 3.59 g and measures 22 mm in diameter, in a standard round shape. It circulated as everyday money before being withdrawn.
The obverse is centred on the value, in a simple design. The lettering reads “BRASIL”, the year “1993” and the value “10 CR$”, identifying the issuing country and the coin’s face value.
The reverse depicts an anteater, specifically the southern tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla), in keeping with the coin’s celebration of Brazilian wildlife. The inscription reads “TAMANDUÁ”, the Portuguese name for the animal shown.
