Brazil 10 Centavos coin

Brazil 10 Centavos (Issued 1987)

This ten-centavo piece belongs to the Cruzado coinage of the late 1980s, one of several currencies Brazil issued during a long battle with inflation. It is a small stainless-steel coin, silver-grey in colour and light in the hand, with a plain edge.

On the obverse, the coin bears the Brazilian coat of arms – the great star charged with the Southern Cross and ringed by stars, over a sword flanked by coffee and tobacco sprays – with the ribbon inscribed “REPÚBLICA FEDERATIVA DO BRASIL” and the date of the Republic.

On the reverse, the value is stated plainly as a large numeral 10 beneath the country name “BRASIL”, with the word “CENTAVOS” and the year of striking below.
