The serial number is printed at both ends of the note together with the signature of the Secretary to the Treasury along the lower right.

On the reverse of the note is a detailed engraved illustration of the Palace of Westminster, showing the Houses of Parliament with the Victoria Tower and the Clock Tower rising above the Thames. The scene is framed by fine line engraving and soft background shading, with no denomination printed on the reverse, reflecting the pictorial security style adopted for early Treasury pound notes.
