The United Kingdom Royal Mint issued British Pound coins in 8 different denominations. Included was this 1 Pound Sterling coin of Great Britain, part of the Pound Sterling series of coins. In 2017 these 1 British Pound coins were first minted by the Royal Mint and they are currently still in circulation.
This new bimetallic 12-sided one pound sterling coin was introduced because of the reaction to the hugely counterfeited old style one pound coin, take out of circulation in 2017. This dodecagonal (12 sided) coin has several security features including a hologram. Cited as one of the most secure coins in the world. The obverse side of the coin ha an English rose, Welsh leek, Scottish thistle, and Northern Irish shamrock emerging from one stem within a royal coronet, with the minting year. The reverse side has a portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the George IV State Diadem, with latent (hologram-like) image below the bust.
