About Brunei Dollar Exchange

The Brunei Dollar (BND) is the official currency of Brunei Darussalam, a small but prosperous sultanate on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. We accept all denominations of Brunei Dollar banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Brunei Dollar Banknotes

The current series of Brunei Dollar banknotes includes a range of denominations, from lower-value everyday notes right through to the high-value 1,000 Ringgit and 10,000 Ringgit banknotes. We accept all denominations, including the smaller notes you are likely to bring back from a visit to Bandar Seri Begawan. Notably, the Brunei Dollar is interchangeable at par with the Singapore Dollar, a unique arrangement that has been in place for decades.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we buy older withdrawn Brunei Dollar banknotes, including issues such as the 1,000 Ringgit issued in 1989 and the 500 Ringgit issued in 1989, as well as earlier issues going back to the 1960s and 1970s. We also accept damaged notes, provided they remain at least 50% intact. Rates for older and damaged notes are slightly lower to reflect the additional processing involved, but we will always make you a fair offer.

Brunei Dollar Coins

We accept Brunei Dollar coins, including sen denominations such as the 50 sen and smaller values including the 20 sen, 10 sen, 5 sen, and 1 sen. Because coins require more handling than banknotes, the exchange rate offered is slightly lower, but it is still well worth sending them in rather than leaving them in a drawer.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days
  • No hidden fees or charges

Brunei Dollar Exchange FAQ

Is the Brunei Dollar really interchangeable with the Singapore Dollar?

Yes — the Brunei Dollar and the Singapore Dollar are held at parity under a long-standing Currency Interchangeability Agreement, meaning both are accepted at face value in either country. If you have leftover Singapore Dollars alongside your Brunei notes, we can exchange both.

Can I exchange old Brunei Ringgit banknotes issued in the 1960s or 1970s?

Yes, we accept older Brunei banknotes including issues from the 1960s and 1970s, which most UK banks and currency exchanges will not handle. These older notes are exchanged at a slightly reduced rate compared to more recent issues, but we will still make you a competitive offer.

Do you buy Brunei Dollar coins as well as banknotes?

Yes! We accept Brunei sen coins across a range of denominations, including the 50 sen, 20 sen, 10 sen, 5 sen, and 1 sen. The rate for coins is a little lower than for banknotes due to handling costs, but there is no reason to leave them behind.

How do I send my Brunei Dollars in and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Brunei Dollar banknotes and coins and post them to us yourself — we recommend using a tracked service for your own peace of mind. Once we receive and verify your currency, we will pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If you are not happy with our offer for any reason, we will return your currency to you free of charge.

Will UK banks exchange my leftover Brunei Dollars?

Most UK high street banks do not exchange Brunei Dollars, particularly older series notes or coins — it is a specialist currency that falls outside their standard offerings. We handle the full range of Brunei Dollar denominations and series, so you are not left out of pocket after a trip to Borneo.
