The Canadian twenty-five cent piece, or quarter, of this period was struck in .800 fine silver under King George VI. Larger than the dime and widely used for everyday purchases, it carried a design that has become a national symbol. The coin has a reeded edge and a bright silver appearance.

On the reverse is the head of a caribou facing left, the enduring emblem of the Canadian quarter designed by Emanuel Hahn, with the value “25 CENTS” and the date to the upper right and “CANADA” arched around the left within a beaded border.
