Cayman Island Dollars Banknotes & Coins We Accept

To exchange your Cayman Island Dollars for cash, select the coins or banknotes you want to add to your account below.

About Cayman Island Dollar Exchange

The Cayman Island Dollar (KYD) is the official currency of the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean known as one of the world’s leading offshore financial centres. We accept all denominations of Cayman Island Dollar banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Cayman Island Dollar Banknotes

The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority issues a range of banknotes featuring local wildlife, landmarks, and imagery reflecting the islands’ natural heritage. We accept all current denominations, and unlike most high street exchanges, we are happy to take notes in any condition — whether crisp or well-worn from your travels.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most currency exchanges, we accept withdrawn and damaged Cayman Island Dollar banknotes. As long as a note is at least 50% intact, we can offer a rate for it, though the exchange rate will be slightly lower than for current series notes. If you’re also holding other Caribbean currencies such as Eastern Caribbean Dollars or Jamaican Dollars, we can exchange those too.

Cayman Island Dollar Coins

We also buy Cayman Island Dollar coins, including the original 1972 circulation issues such as the 25 cent coin and the 10 cent coin, along with all other denominations from that series. Rates for coins are slightly lower than for banknotes due to the additional handling costs involved, but we are one of the few services in the UK that will take them at all.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days
  • No hidden fees or charges

Cayman Island Dollar Exchange FAQ

Is the Cayman Island Dollar still in use today?

Yes, the Cayman Island Dollar is the active currency of the Cayman Islands and remains in circulation today. Current banknotes are fully exchangeable at our standard rates. If you have older withdrawn notes, we can still accept those too, typically at a slightly reduced rate.

Can I exchange Cayman Island Dollar coins in the UK?

Yes! We accept Cayman Island Dollar coins, including the 1972 series denominations such as the 1 cent and 5 cent coins. Most UK banks and high street exchanges will not accept foreign coins, so we offer a practical alternative for travellers returning from the Cayman Islands.

How do I send my Cayman Island Dollars to you?

Simply box up your notes and coins and post them to us yourself — we recommend using a tracked postal service for peace of mind when sending currency back from a Caribbean trip. Once we receive and verify your Cayman Island Dollars, we will pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you are not happy with our offer, we will return your currency free of charge.

Do you accept damaged Cayman Island Dollar banknotes?

Yes, we do accept damaged notes, provided that at least 50% of the banknote remains intact. Rates for damaged notes are slightly lower than for notes in good condition, but this is a far better outcome than having currency you simply cannot exchange elsewhere. If you are unsure whether your notes are in acceptable condition, feel free to contact us before sending.

Will UK banks exchange Cayman Island Dollars?

No, most UK banks and post offices do not exchange Cayman Island Dollars, as it is a specialist Caribbean currency with limited demand on the high street. We offer a postal exchange service that accepts both banknotes and coins from the Cayman Islands, making it straightforward to convert your leftover currency from home.
