About CFA Francs West Africa Exchange
The West African CFA Franc (XOF) is the official currency shared by eight countries in West Africa, including Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mali, and is issued by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO). We accept all denominations of West African CFA Franc banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current CFA Franc Banknotes
The current range of West African CFA Franc banknotes covers a variety of denominations, all issued under the authority of the BCEAO and featuring security elements such as watermarks, security threads, and raised print. We accept the full range of banknotes, including higher-value notes such as the 5,000 CFA Franc and 10,000 CFA Franc notes, as well as all smaller denominations.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we also buy older and withdrawn West African CFA Franc banknotes, including earlier series such as the 500 CFA Franc and 1,000 CFA Franc notes first issued in the 1990s. We apply a standard 50% intact rule for damaged notes, and rates for older or worn notes may be slightly lower than those for current series banknotes.
CFA Franc Coins
We accept the full range of West African CFA Franc coins, including the 500 Franc coin and 250 Franc coin, as well as all smaller denominations from the 1 Franc upwards. Rates for coins are slightly lower than for banknotes due to the additional handling involved, but unlike most banks and bureaux de change, we won’t turn them away.
