About Chilean Peso Exchange

The Chilean Peso (CLP) is the official currency of Chile, a long, narrow country stretching down the western coast of South America. We accept all denominations of Chilean Peso banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Chilean Peso Banknotes

Chile’s current banknote series was introduced from 2009 onwards and includes a range of denominations featuring prominent figures from Chilean history, printed on polymer and paper substrates with modern security features. We accept all current Chilean Peso banknotes, including the 10,000 peso note and the 20,000 peso note, as well as every other denomination in circulation. If you’ve returned from Santiago with a mix of notes, we’ll exchange the full lot.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we buy withdrawn Chilean Peso banknotes from earlier series, including older designs such as the 5,000 peso note issued from 1981 and the 1,000 peso note from the 1978–2009 series. We also accept damaged notes, provided they are at least 50% intact. The rate offered on old and damaged notes is slightly lower than for current series notes, but you won’t have to throw them away.

Chilean Peso Coins

We accept a wide range of Chilean Peso coins, from smaller denominations such as the 10 peso coin right up to the larger 500 peso coin, and everything in between. As with most foreign coins, the rate is slightly lower than for banknotes due to handling costs, but it’s far better than leaving them in a jar at home.

Chilean Peso Exchange FAQ

Can I exchange old Chilean Peso banknotes that are no longer in circulation?

Yes! We accept withdrawn Chilean Peso banknotes from earlier series, including notes dating back to the late 1970s and 1980s. Most UK banks and travel money services won’t touch these older designs, but we’ll exchange them at a slightly reduced rate compared to current series notes.

Do you accept Chilean Peso coins?

Yes, we do. We accept Chilean Peso coins across a range of denominations, including the 500 peso, 100 peso, 50 peso, 10 peso, 5 peso, and 1 peso coins. The exchange rate for coins is slightly lower than for banknotes due to additional handling costs, but it’s a straightforward process.

I have a damaged Chilean Peso note — can you still exchange it?

Yes, in most cases. We accept damaged Chilean Peso banknotes provided they are at least 50% intact. The rate offered will be slightly lower than for notes in good condition, but unlike many other services we won’t simply turn them away.

How do I send my Chilean Pesos to you and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Chilean Peso banknotes and coins and post them to us yourself — we recommend using a secure postal service of your choice. Once we receive them, we’ll verify the currency and process your payment within 5 working days, either by bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you’re not happy with our offer, we’ll return your pesos free of charge.

Are Chilean Pesos a difficult currency to exchange in the UK?

They can be. Unlike major currencies such as American Dollars or Euros, Chilean Pesos are not widely traded on the UK high street, and many banks and bureaux de change won’t accept them at all. We specialise in currencies like these, so you’re in the right place whether you have current notes, older series, or coins.
