The design is dominated by intricate guilloché patterns and fine line engraving in blue tones, intended to make the note difficult to copy while remaining easy to recognise. The obverse features large denomination markings (“0.1” and the Chinese character for jiao), framed by ornate borders, with additional wording that indicates it was not for open market circulation. On the reverse, the certificate features a detailed steam locomotive scene, reflecting the era’s focus on industry, transport and infrastructure.
