The 2 Jiao banknote issued in 1962 forms part of the third series of the Renminbi introduced by the People’s Bank of China during a period of major economic and industrial development. This denomination reflects China’s mid-20th-century monetary system, when smaller fractional units such as jiao and fen played a practical role in everyday transactions.

Printed using traditional intaglio techniques, the note features a multicolour design with fine line patterns and ornate borders typical of early Renminbi issues. The obverse prominently displays the national emblem of the People’s Republic of China, along with denomination markings and Chinese script identifying the issuing authority. The year “1962” is clearly printed, marking this later revision of the third-series design.

The reverse of the 2 Jiao 1962 banknote depicts a large infrastructure scene showing a long bridge spanning a wide river, symbolising national unity, industrial progress, and economic development. This type of imagery was common on Chinese banknotes of the era, reinforcing themes of reconstruction and modernisation.

Although denominated in jiao rather than yuan, this note is now considered a withdrawn and historic banknote. It is no longer legal tender in China and cannot be used in circulation, but it remains of interest for exchange due to its age and historical significance.
