The 5 Jiao banknote issued in 1953 forms part of the First Series of the Renminbi, introduced by the People’s Bank of China following the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. The 1953 5 Jiao note is printed in predominantly purple and reddish tones, with intricate ornamental borders and fine line engraving typical of early PRC banknote design. The reverse design is framed by ornate patterns and includes the issue year “1953” in Chinese characters.

Although these banknotes were once legal tender, 1953 Renminbi issues have long since been withdrawn from circulation and are no longer accepted in everyday transactions, either within China or internationally.
