5 Pesos coin Colombia (Policarpa)

5 Colombian Pesos (Issued 1990)

The five pesos coin was part of Colombia’s everyday coinage before the country’s later reforms. Struck in an aluminium-bronze alloy with a golden colour, it is a small, light coin with a plain edge, once common as low-value change and now long out of circulation.

On the obverse is the national coat of arms of Colombia — an Andean condor with outstretched wings above a shield, flanked by flags and banners — with the legend “REPÚBLICA DE COLOMBIA” around the edge and the date “1990” at the foot.

On the reverse, a large numeral “5” sits above the word “PESOS”, enclosed within a wreath of laurel leaves tied with a small bow at the bottom.
