500 Colombian Pesos (Issued 2016)
The five hundred pesos coin is one of the higher denominations of Colombia’s current coin series. It is bimetallic, with a silvery outer ring around a golden centre, giving it a distinctive two-tone look, and it carries a reeded edge. The coin remains in everyday circulation.
On the obverse, the numeral “500” and the word “PESOS” occupy the golden centre, with the legend “REPÚBLICA DE COLOMBIA” and the date “2016” running around the silvery ring, which is patterned with concentric and wave-like motifs.
On the reverse is a glass frog (rana de cristal), the small translucent amphibian of Colombia’s forests, shown in profile above stylised water lines and labelled “RANA DE CRISTAL”.
