5 Croatian Kuna (Issued 2019)

The five kuna coin was one of the everyday denominations of Croatia’s kuna coinage. Struck in copper-nickel with a silvery tone and a reeded edge, it was a solid, medium-sized coin. Croatia used the kuna until it adopted the euro on 1 January 2023, after which kuna coins were withdrawn from circulation.

On the obverse, the numeric side, a large numeral “5” appears with a running marten — the “kuna” animal that gives the currency its name — set behind it, the legend “REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA” around the rim, the word “KUNA” below, and an oak sprig with the Croatian chequered shield at the foot.

On the reverse is a brown bear (mrki medvjed) shown walking, with the legend “MRKI MEDVJED” arcing above and the date “2019” beneath.
