The fifty lipa coin was the largest of the minor denominations of the Croatian kuna, which circulated from 1994 until the euro changeover in 2023; one hundred lipa made a kuna. Struck in nickel-plated steel with a silvery colour, it was a common everyday coin. Like its companions it carries a Croatian plant, reflecting the botanical theme of the series. The edge is smooth.

On the obverse a large numeral “50” is set among leaves, with “REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA” arched above, the word “LIPA” below, and the small chequy shield of Croatia at the foot within a decorative border.

On the reverse are the flowers of the Velebit degenia, an endemic Croatian plant, with the Croatian name “VELEBITSKA DEGENIJA” arranged around the field, the year “1993” at the foot and the designer’s initials “KK”.
