The two kroner coin of the modern Danish series is a holed coin, pierced with a round central hole in a tradition that runs through several of Denmark’s smaller denominations. Struck in copper-nickel with a silvery colour, it is a round coin with a plain edge, easy to recognise by its central hole.
On the obverse, arranged around the hole, is the crowned royal monogram of Queen Margrethe II, formed of scrollwork beneath a crown, with small hearts to the sides and the mint marks and year at the foot.
On the reverse, the legend “2 KRONER DANMARK” curves around the central hole, framing an intertwined pattern of S-shaped spirals with small hearts and dots.
