The one Deutsche Mark coin was the cornerstone of West Germany’s post-war currency and remained in use until Germany adopted the euro in 2002. Struck in copper-nickel with a silvery appearance, it is a round coin with a reeded edge, built to last through decades of everyday circulation.
On the obverse, the value side, a large numeral “1” stands above the words “DEUTSCHE MARK”, flanked by two small oak sprigs, with the year at the foot within a beaded border.
On the reverse is the Federal eagle (Bundesadler) with its wings spread, the emblem of the Federal Republic, surrounded by the legend “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND” and a mint mark letter below.
