The one gulden coin was a core denomination of the Dutch guilder, the currency of the Netherlands until it adopted the euro in 2002. Struck in nickel with a silvery appearance, it is a round coin with a reeded edge, made for constant everyday use.
On the obverse is a stylised profile portrait of Queen Beatrix facing left, rendered in a modern minimal style with fine vertical lines, alongside the legend “BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN” (Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands).
On the reverse, the value “1 G” is set against a grid of raised blocks, with the date “1985” at the foot between the mintmaster’s mark and the mint mark.
