10 Cents, Netherlands (Beatrix, Issued 1988)

This ten cent piece was part of the Dutch guilder, the currency of the Netherlands until it was replaced by the euro in 2002; one hundred cents made a guilder. Struck in nickel with a silvery colour, it carried the modern, angular design used during the reign of Queen Beatrix. The edge is smooth.

On the obverse is a stylised, sharply drawn profile of Queen Beatrix facing left, overlaid with fine vertical lines, and the legend “BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN” (Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands) set in vertical lettering to the right, a distinctive modernist treatment for the series.

On the reverse the value “10 ct” is set large against a field of vertical lines, with the year “1988” and small mint marks along the foot.
