10 Cents, Netherlands (Wilhelmina, Issued 1937)

This ten cent piece belonged to the Dutch guilder, the long-standing currency of the Netherlands replaced by the euro in 2002; the guilder was divided into one hundred cents. Struck in silver with a bright white colour, it was a small, thin coin for everyday use, issued during the reign of Queen Wilhelmina. The edge is reeded.

On the obverse is the head of Queen Wilhelmina facing left, with the legend “WILHELMINA KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN” (Wilhelmina, Queen of the Netherlands) running around the rim.

On the reverse the value “10 CENTS” and the date are set within a wreath of orange branches tied with a ribbon at the foot, a design long associated with the small Dutch silver coinage.
