25 cent coin (Beatrix)

25 Cent — Netherlands (Issued 1999)

The twenty-five cent coin, a quarter of a guilder, was one of the everyday small coins of the Netherlands before the euro changeover in 2002. Struck in nickel with a silvery appearance, it is a round coin with a reeded edge, made for high-volume everyday use.

On the obverse is a stylised modern profile of Queen Beatrix facing left, drawn with fine lines and vertical bars, with the legend “BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN” (Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands).

On the reverse, the value “25 ct” is set against a grid of raised blocks, with the date “1999” at the foot between the mintmaster’s mark and the mint mark.
