1 Cent Coin — East Caribbean States (Queen Elizabeth II)

The East Caribbean one cent is the smallest denomination of the currency used across the member states of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union. Struck in light aluminium with a scalloped (flower-shaped) edge, it is thin and very light, its wavy outline making it easy to distinguish from other small coins by touch. The soft metal and low value marked it as a coin for the very smallest everyday change.

On the obverse, the coin carries a crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing a tiara, with the legend “QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND” curving around the edge and following the scalloped border.

On the reverse, a large central “1” is flanked by two curved sprigs meeting in a bow at the base. The inscription “EAST CARIBBEAN STATES” arcs above with the year to the right, and “ONE CENT” runs along the foot.
