5 Dollars Dollar (Issued 2000)
Trafalgar Falls, the twin waterfall system nestled within the lush rainforest of Dominica, anchors the reverse design of this Eastern Caribbean Central Bank five-dollar note, reflecting the natural grandeur that defines the island member states of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union. The falls cascade dramatically against a backdrop of dense tropical foliage, rendered in fine intaglio engraving that captures the energy and scale of this celebrated landmark. Its inclusion on this denomination speaks to the shared natural heritage of the member nations, which span some of the most ecologically rich islands in the Lesser Antilles.
On the front, the dominant central image is a detailed map of the Eastern Caribbean island chain, labelling each member territory including Anguilla, St. Christopher and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. To the left of the map, Admiral’s House in Antigua and Barbuda is depicted, a stately colonial-era building rendered in pale greens and whites with fine architectural detail, surrounded by tropical palms and lush garden scenery. To the right of the map, Trafalgar Falls in Dominica appears once again, its cascading waters engraved with precision against vivid green forest tones. The denomination numeral “$5” appears in the upper left and upper right corners of the note, while the words “FIVE DOLLARS” are printed boldly across the lower left in dark lettering. The issuing authority “EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK” is displayed prominently across the lower portion of the note in a deep maroon serif typeface against a pale guilloché background. A decorative fish motif is visible towards the lower right edge. The overall colour palette combines soft greens, warm beiges, and deep reds, with intricate guilloché patterning throughout the borders. Denomination text and security features are woven into the layered geometric background, and a vertical security strip is visible toward the right side of the note.
The reverse of the note carries the continuation of the waterfall and natural landscape imagery seen on the front, with Trafalgar Falls rendered in vivid green and blue tones, the cascading water falling between steep rock faces framed by dense tropical vegetation. Fine line engraving gives depth and texture to the foliage and water, with the composition extending across the right half of the note. The left portion of the reverse presents Admiral’s House once again, framed beneath swaying palm trees, with its colonial architecture detailed in pale greens and cream. A guilloché border pattern runs along the upper and lower margins, incorporating fine microprinting and repeating geometric motifs consistent with Eastern Caribbean Central Bank security printing standards. The denomination “$5” is printed in the upper corners, and the overall tonal balance of the reverse shifts toward cooler greens and deeper forest hues compared to the warmer tones of the front.
