About Egyptian Pounds Exchange

The Egyptian Pound (EGP) is the official currency of Egypt, issued by the Central Bank of Egypt and subdivided into 100 piastres. We accept all denominations of Egyptian pound banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Egyptian Pound Banknotes

Current Egyptian pound banknotes feature Arabic calligraphy, Islamic architecture, and ancient Egyptian imagery, and are printed with a range of security features including watermarks and metallic threads. We accept all denominations in circulation, including higher-value notes such as the 200 EGP note and the 100 EGP note, as well as every smaller denomination in between. If you have returned from a holiday in Egypt and have notes left over, we can convert them quickly and easily.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we buy older and withdrawn Egyptian pound notes, including issues such as the 100 EGP note issued in 1978 and earlier designs such as the 5 EGP note issued in 1957. We also accept damaged notes provided they are at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower than for notes in good condition. Egypt has issued many series of banknotes over the decades, so whether your notes are decades old or simply well-worn, we will still consider them.

Egyptian Pound Coins

We accept Egyptian pound coins, including the 50 piastres coin and the 1 Egyptian pound coin. Coin exchange rates are typically slightly lower than for banknotes due to the additional handling costs involved, but we are happy to take mixed coin and note collections together.

Egyptian Pound Exchange FAQ

Do you accept Egyptian pound notes that are very old — from the 1950s or 1960s?

Yes, we do accept older Egyptian pound banknotes, including issues from the 1950s and 1960s such as the 5 EGP note issued in 1957. The rate offered on very old or withdrawn notes may be slightly lower than for current series notes, but we assess each note individually. If you are unsure whether your notes qualify, feel free to contact us before sending.

Can I exchange Egyptian piastre coins as well as banknotes?

Yes! Egyptian pounds are subdivided into 100 piastres, and we accept piastre coins alongside banknotes. Coins do attract a slightly lower rate than notes due to handling costs, but there is no need to sort or separate them — simply send everything together and we will assess the full collection.

Most UK banks won't accept my Egyptian pounds — can you help?

Yes, we can. Egyptian pounds are not widely exchangeable on the UK high street, as most banks and bureau de change services do not handle this currency. We specialise in currencies like these, buying both current and older Egyptian pound notes and coins that you might otherwise struggle to exchange.

How do I send my Egyptian pounds to you, and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Egyptian pound notes and coins and post them to us yourself — we recommend using a tracked service for your own peace of mind. Once we receive your currency, we will verify it and process your payment within 5 working days via bank transfer or PayPal. If you are not happy with the rate we offer, we will return your currency free of charge.

I have a mix of Egyptian pounds and other North African currencies — do you exchange those too?

Yes, we exchange a wide range of currencies from the region, including Algerian Dinars, Moroccan Dirhams, and Tunisian Dinars. You are welcome to send multiple currencies together, and we will assess and pay for each one separately.
