10 Senti (Issued 2008)

The 10 senti was a minor coin of the Estonian kroon, the currency Estonia reintroduced in 1992 after regaining independence and used until the country adopted the euro on 1 January 2011. Struck in a golden aluminium-bronze that gave it a warm colour and light, hard-wearing feel, it was a small everyday coin used for low-value change. Its modest size and smooth edge made it easy to distinguish from the larger cupronickel pieces in the series.

On the obverse, the coin shows the national arms of Estonia — three heraldic lions passant walking one above the other, the emblem inherited from medieval Tallinn. The year of striking is divided on either side of the lions, here reading “20” and “08”, with a beaded circle enclosing the design.

On the reverse, the large numeral “10” fills the field above the word “SENTI”, with the legend “EESTI VABARIIK” — Republic of Estonia — curving around the upper edge between two small dots. A raised rim and plain field keep the design clean and legible.
