7 Fiji Dollar Commemorative Banknote (Rugby 7S Gold Olympians) [P-W122]

7 Dollars Fiji Dollar (Issued 2022)

The Reserve Bank of Fiji issued this 7 Dollars banknote in 2022 during a period when the nation’s financial system maintained robust institutional frameworks for currency management and national commemoration. The note was created to celebrate Fiji’s rugby heritage and Olympic achievement, reflecting the country’s sporting pride within its monetary system. As a modern denomination released within the contemporary Fiji Dollar series, this banknote represents the central bank’s commitment to honouring national sporting moments through its currency design programme.

On the front, the banknote features a dynamic rugby scene capturing players in a celebratory moment, their arms raised in triumph whilst wearing striped rugby jerseys. The players are rendered in detailed photographic engraving against a warm golden-tan background that dominates the note’s overall colour palette. A large white oval security feature appears on the left side of the design. The denomination “SEVEN DOLLARS” is printed in large capital letters on the right edge of the note, with matching text displayed vertically. The text “FIJIANA RUGBY 7s BRONZE OLYMPIANS 2020” runs across the upper portion of the design. A serial number “GFG780080” is visible, accompanied by a signature marked “Rampuri” and an official seal. The issuing bank’s name “RESERVE BANK OF FIJI” appears with a notation confirming the note’s legal tender status.

The reverse depicts the full Fiji women’s rugby sevens team posed formally, displaying their Olympic gold medals and holding the national flag. The team members stand arranged in rows, dressed in official white and navy blue ceremonial clothing. A coach or official figure gestures expressively on the left side of the composition. The text “FIJI RUGBY 7s GOLD OLYMPIANS 2020” is inscribed at the top, with “Fiji” and “SEVEN DOLLARS” featured prominently within the design. Concentric circular patterns and decorative geometric elements frame the composition in soft gold tones. A circular official seal appears in the upper right section of the note. The overall colour scheme maintains the warm golden background consistent with the front design, with the athletes’ clothing providing navy blue and white contrast elements throughout the reverse.
