The 10 markkaa was the highest everyday coin of the Finnish markka, the currency Finland used until the euro replaced it in 2002. This 1993 type is a bimetallic piece with a golden aluminium-bronze centre and a paler cupronickel ring, giving it a two-tone appearance and a weighty, high-value feel. The mixed metals made it easy to distinguish from the lower denominations.

On the obverse, a capercaillie — the large woodland grouse of Finland’s forests — is shown displaying, with the legend “SUOMI FINLAND” and the year 1993 around the edge.
