10 Pennia Finland (Issued 1974)

The 10 penniä was a small everyday coin of the Finnish markka, Finland’s currency before the euro replaced it in 2002. Struck in warm golden aluminium-bronze, it was a light, hard-wearing piece used for low-value change. Its plain edge and compact size made it simple to handle.

On the obverse, the crowned Finnish lion rampant stands at the centre with sword raised and forepaw on a sabre, surrounded by the legend “SUOMEN TASAVALTA”, the year 1974 and a small mint mark.

On the reverse, the large “10” and the word “PENNIÄ” appear alongside a slender stylised plant sprig, the design contained within a beaded border.
