The 50 penniä was a small everyday coin of the Finnish markka, Finland’s currency until the euro replaced it in 2002. Struck in warm golden aluminium-bronze, it was a light, hard-wearing piece used for change, larger than the penniä minors but below the markka coins in value.

On the obverse, the crowned Finnish lion rampant stands at the centre with sword raised and forepaw on a sabre, surrounded by the legend “SUOMEN TASAVALTA” and the year 1982.

On the reverse, a bold “50” is placed next to a stylised plant sprig above the word “PENNIÄ”, the design held within a beaded border.
