The half franc was a minor coin of the French franc, the currency France used until the euro replaced it in 2002. Introduced in the mid-1960s, it was struck in nickel with a bright silvery finish and a reeded edge, making it a neat, durable piece for everyday change. On the reverse, the denomination “1/2 FRANC” is set beside a leafy olive branch, with the year beneath, the whole framed by a raised rim.
