About Gambian Dalasi Exchange
The Gambian Dalasi (GMD) is the official currency of The Gambia, the small West African nation that sits along the Gambia River and is a popular destination for British holidaymakers. We accept all denominations of Dalasi banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Gambian Dalasi Banknotes
The Central Bank of The Gambia issues a range of Dalasi banknotes featuring national imagery and security features including watermarks, security threads, and colour-shifting ink on higher denominations. We accept all current banknotes across every denomination, so whether you have smaller notes or higher-value ones left over from your trip, we can exchange them. If you also have other West African currency to exchange, we handle CFA Francs West Africa as well.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we accept withdrawn Dalasi banknotes from older series, as well as notes that are torn or worn, provided they are at least 50% intact. Rates for old or damaged notes are slightly lower than for current series, but we will always make you a fair offer. If you are also holding other older African currency, we exchange withdrawn notes such as Zambian Kwacha and Ugandan Shillings.
Gambian Dalasi Coins
We also accept Gambian Dalasi coins, including the smaller butut denominations that circulate alongside the banknotes. Rates for coins are slightly lower than for notes due to the additional handling costs involved, but unlike most banks and bureaux de change, we will not turn them away.
