1 Tetri Georgia (Issued 1993)

The 1 tetri is the smallest coin of the Georgian lari system, introduced when the lari and its tetri subunit were brought in during the mid-1990s; the first coins are dated 1993. A small, light piece with a plain edge, it was made for the lowest values of everyday change. The lari and tetri remain Georgia’s currency today.

On the obverse, the centre carries the “borjgali”, an ancient Georgian seven-armed spiral symbol of the sun set above a stylised tree of life, with the Georgian legend for Republic of Georgia around the top, “REPUBLIC OF GEORGIA” beneath, and the date 19-93 flanking the emblem.

On the reverse, a large numeral “1” stands above the Georgian word “tetri”, with a small decorative motif of grape clusters below, enclosed by a border of stylised arrowheads.
