About Gibraltar Pounds Exchange
The Gibraltar Pound (GIP) is the official currency of Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, pegged at par with sterling. We accept all denominations of Gibraltar pound banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Gibraltar Banknotes
Gibraltar’s most recent banknotes were issued in 2010 and 2011 and feature a range of denominations suited to everyday use and larger transactions. We accept all current Gibraltar pound banknotes, including the Gibraltar 50 pound note and the Gibraltar 20 pound note, as well as all smaller denominations. Gibraltar pounds are not widely accepted at UK banks or currency exchanges, so if you’ve returned from the Rock with leftover notes, we’re one of the easiest ways to convert them.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we buy older and withdrawn Gibraltar banknotes, including issues going back several decades. Notes such as the 1986 Gibraltar 50 pound note and the 1958 Gibraltar 5 pound note are all considered, as are damaged notes provided they remain at least 50% intact. The rate offered for older or damaged notes may be slightly lower than for current series, but we’ll always make you a fair offer.
Gibraltar Pound Coins
We also accept Gibraltar coins, which are not interchangeable with UK coinage despite sharing the same denominations. These include the Gibraltar 2 pound coin and the Gibraltar 50 pence coin, along with all other circulating coin values. Rates for coins are slightly lower than for banknotes due to the additional handling involved, but we accept them where most exchanges won’t.
