The Guernsey two pound coin is a bimetallic piece introduced in the late 1990s to mirror the British £2 coin, circulating within the Bailiwick at parity with sterling. It is formed from a golden nickel-brass outer ring around a pale cupronickel centre, a two-colour construction that made the denomination instantly recognisable and hard to confuse with lower-value coins. The edge is milled for security and everyday grip.

On the obverse, the coin carries Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, with his initials “IRB” below the neck. The surrounding legend reads “ELIZABETH II BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY” in raised capitals, and a beaded inner circle separates the portrait on the cupronickel centre from the outer ring.

On the reverse, “TWO POUNDS” arcs across the top and the date “1998” runs along the foot, with “£2” placed to either side. The central design shows a broad cross with a plain shield at its heart and floral sprigs set in each of the four quadrants, framed within a beaded circle.
